GMB Cardiff1 Branch Newsletter
Thank you to those who responded to the last e-news (The "Election Special") with such positive feedback; we try our hardest to give you valuable information that we know to be reliable and not rumour or spin. Constructive feedback (especially praise!!) is ALWAYS appreciated!
OK - tomorrow is a VERY BIG and IMPORTANT day .... (no, my birthday is in August, so you still have time to save up :-) ).
Tomorrow, Thursday 8th June 2017, is the General Election, and I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that it is probably one of THE most important in a generation.
Members often stop and ask how things are progressing on the national pay negotiations front; ALL GMB members (in fact, all public service employees) have lived with pitiful, minuscule pay increases in the last seven years. This is because the Westminster government has imposed a 1% ceiling on the wage bill.
Previous branch E-newsletters have contained the excellent report, produced by our wonderful GMB National Public Services Sector Secretary - Rehana Azam - and her team in London.
(Those who want to check the report can find it here :- http://www.gmb.org.uk/campaigns/public-sector-pay-pinch )
This clearly shows how much staff working in the public sector have lost over that period.
?This branch always prides itself on respecting individual members differences and the right of their opinion; however, we feel it would be negligent of us not to point out that only ONE party is pledged to remove the 1% cap on local government pay ...... and that party is the Labour Party.
Please exercise your vote tomorrow; the worst possible outcome is the re-election of this current government by apathy and fear.
Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm - it only takes a few minutes to do your duty!!
As always, thank you for reading this. Come rain or shine, please pop to your polling station tomorrow.
