Unless you've been in Outer Mongolia for the last couple of months, on a trekking holiday, you must have noticed that we are rapidly approaching a General Election in a weeks time, next Thursday, 8th June 2016. Polling stations open from 7am - 10pm.
(Good luck to all election staff! It's a very long day; regards from a former Presiding Officer!).
We, in this GMB branch, have always been judicious with party politics, recognising that our 4000+ members in Cardiff council are probably members of several different parties, or possibly none.
Politics is a personal matter, and we respect an individuals right to vote for whoever they support; all we usually ask is that people register and use their vote.
Democracy is too pressure to allow it to be ignored.
We attach a useful Party Manifesto comparison document, produced by the National Pensioners Convention (NPC), which looks at all the major election topics and accurately reproduces the manifesto stated position of all the major parties (Conservative, Lib. Dems, Labour, Plaid, SNP, Greens and UKIP). We hope this helps members with their very important decision.
We always believe in giving our members information, and information that is credible, from a reliable source, and - hopefully - useful. We believe this meets that criteria.
Remember; we are electing a government for the next five year, so until 2022 !!!
Please USE your vote.
A lot of very brave women and men suffered to ensure that you and I have that privilege.
For those soon embarking on a holiday, we wish you a great time; for those who've already been - we hope you had a good break, & where's the postcard? … just avoid British Airways for a while..
Thanks, as always, for reading.
