GMB Christmas Newsletter
We are ALL counting the days, colleagues !!
As is our custom in GMB, we always share information and speak direct to our members, and this occasion is no different from the many other times we have done so this year - last year - and for something like five years now.
Currently, we send e-newsletters direct to about 1500+ members, at least once a month - sometimes more frequently. Our ambition is to send them to every member, so we still have a way to go. If you know of any GMB colleague not receiving, please tell them to get in touch asap!
It's been a tough old year, with - seemingly - more than the usual number of casualties.
Whether you a music fan (Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen), or a film buff (Alan Rickman, Robert Vaughn, Gene Wilder, Peter Vaughan); a TV lover (Andrew Sachs, Terry Wogan, Caroline Aherne) or a comedy lover (Ronnie Corbett, Victoria Wood) there has been a lot of sadness in 2016. To me, the biggest celebrity loss was the indefatigable & THE greatest, Muhammad Ali.
Many of you will have lost family and friends too, so we think of you as you face a first Christmas without them. It's tough, I know from personal experience. Time does eventually heal, but it's a rough journey, sadly.
Your union representatives have been working hard for you,
and will continue to do so in 2017.
It was GMB in Cardiff that lead the way in ensuring that Teaching Assistants had their EWC registration fees reimbursed, and we ensured that it wasn't a one year deal, but continues every year.
It was GMB in Cardiff that ensured that our colleagues in the Leisure Centres retained their existing Terms & Conditions (and their LGPS pension scheme); we opposed the outsourcing to GLL but we were badly let down by the Cabinet member on this. However, we made a bad situation a lot better.
It is the GMB in Cardiff that leads the way on the ADM (Alternative Delivery Method) talks, that are still ongoing on the future of waste services and FM, etc.
And it is the GMB in Cardiff that attends EVERY forum - whether it is Works Council or Health & Safety; Service Area Joint Committees or consultation briefings. We have a record second to none on being active, proactive and vocal in defence of OUR members (that's YOU!!) - you should expect nothing less, and we continue to strive to deliver. GMB members deserve ONLY the best.
So, as 2016 comes to a close, and 2017 is peaking from behind the duvet, we take this opportunity to wish all of you the -
MERRIEST OF MERRY CHRISTMAS'S
HAPPIEST OF HAPPY NEW YEARS !!
We thank you for your support and membership, and we look forward to a peaceful and prosperous new year.
The very best wishes, from
Ken (our Branch Secretary),
from Angie & Suzanne,
from Lynne and Rob,
from Anne and from all the Stewards,
& activists in Cardiff 1 Branch,
and - of course - from the semi-senile, deaf, partially blind (I need a cataract op'!)
old codger who writes this stuff! :-)
